The MachineTrader™ Data Center provides a series of reports on the performance and trading interest of active stocks that are attracting the interest of traders. The Data Center digests the list of all publicly traded stocks but filters out low volume (under 500,000 shares daily) and penny stocks (under $1), ultimately reporting on the movements of approximately 3,000 tickers.
The following is the list of reports currently produced by the Data Center:
1) Top Stocks Watchlist
Identifies the top performing 20 stocks based on the percentage change in price from the previous day’s close to the price at market open at 9:30 AM. Continues to track the same 20 stocks every 5 minutes throughout the trading day. This report will run with a free IEX data plan from Alpaca.
Identifies the worst performing 20 stocks based on the percentage change in price from the previous day’s close to the price at market open at 9:30 AM. Continues to track the same 20 stocks every 5 minutes throughout the trading day. This report will run with a free IEX data plan from Alpaca.
3) Top Performing Stocks Every 5 Minutes

4) Worst Performing Stocks Every 5 Minutes
Reports on the worst performing 20 stocks every 5 minutes through extended trading day beginning at 4 AM EST and ending at 8 PM EST. For extended hours reporting, a paid SIP data plan is required.
Reports on the 20 stocks with the biggest percentage change in trading volume for each specific 5 minute period. The report compares current trading volume with the 4-week average volume for that 5 minute period, i.e. 9:35 AM, 9:40 AM, etc.
6) Open Interest in Current Week Options
Selects the top 20 Option Contracts with the greatest “open interest” for all option contracts expiring on Friday of the current week. The 20 contracts with the greatest interest are selected at 5 AM each morning and the prices and interest are updated each 5 minutes through the trading day.
The Short Interest report aggregates short interest data reported to the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) by broker-dealers. Short interest represents the total number of shares that have been sold short but not yet covered or closed out. It serves as a key indicator of market sentiment and potential price movement as high short interest may signal bearish sentiment or the possibility of a short squeeze.
